/ Union Budget FAQ’s /

When will Budget 2026 be presented?

Date: 1 February 2026 (Sunday) Time: 11:00 am
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Budget. This will be her ninth consecutive Budget, setting a new record.

Will the Budget date change as February 1 falls on a Sunday?

No. The Lok Sabha Speaker has confirmed that, in keeping with parliamentary tradition, the Budget will be presented on 1 February, even though it falls on a Sunday.

What income tax relief can be expected?

Standard deduction: There is strong speculation that the standard deduction for salaried employees could be increased from Rs 75000 to Rs 100000. New Tax Regime: The government is keen to further promote the New Tax Regime. Annual income up to Rs 13 lakh could effectively be made tax-free through rebates and exemptions. Joint taxation: Discussions are underway on allowing spouses to file a joint income tax return, which could help reduce the overall tax burden on families.

Will the Old Tax Regime be scrapped?

Experts believe the Old Tax Regime will not be abolished immediately. However, the government appears to be gradually making it less attractive to encourage taxpayers to shift to the New Tax Regime. There have also been suggestions to increase the Section 80C limit from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh, though no final decision has been taken.

What is in store for railways and infrastructure?

The railways may receive over Rs 2.8 lakh crore, representing an increase of around 8%. Key priorities are expected to include the Kavach safety system and Vande Bharat sleeper trains. Allocations may also be raised for new expressways and the completion of stalled infrastructure projects. To position India as a global AI hub, the technology sector could receive significant incentives.

Will smartphones and electronics become cheaper?

The smartphone industry has urged the government to reduce import duties. If customs duties on components are lowered, prices of mobile phones and other electronic gadgets could fall after February 1.

When will the Budget Session of Parliament begin?

The Budget Session is likely to begin on January 28, 2026, starting with the President’s address. The Economic Survey will be tabled on January 31, 2026.

/ Union Budget 2026 /

The Union Budget 2026 is being seen as a crucial milestone for India’s economic future. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present her ninth consecutive Budget on 1 February 2026, a record in itself. The Budget is expected to play a significant role in advancing the government’s long-term vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.

This year, the government is likely to focus on strengthening the New Tax Regime, modernisation of infrastructure and defence, promotion of green energy, artificial intelligence and technology, and reducing the fiscal deficit to below 4.5% of GDP. A key challenge for Budget 2026 will be striking a balance between fiscal prudence and providing relief to the common taxpayer.

On this page, you will find a detailed breakdown of what could become cheaper or more expensive after the Budget. It will also explore whether your take-home salary could increase, if smartphones, chargers and headphones may become more affordable, whether higher tax concessions on lithium-ion cells could lower the prices of electric scooters and cars, and if the government may reduce duties on life-saving medicines.
