The new budget for the Modi government announced on Sunday has re-established the government’s priorities for a bunch of dynamics that needed aid. One of the highlights of the new Budget has been that the Union Finance Minister made no cuts to the Ministry of Minority Affairs budget, but rather increased it further to aid the government in their motives ahead.
As per new initiatives, the Modi Government has allocated close to a total of Rs 3,400 crore for the Ministry of Minority Affairs in the Union Budget this year, compared to Rs 3,395.62 crore in 2025. This means the allocation is Rs 4.38 crore more than last year.
The Ministry of Minority Affairs’ Budget Has Increased
The Ministry of Minority Affairs received Rs 3,400 crore in the Union Budget. The Ministry budget has grown rapidly since the Modi Government took office. As per the new Budget announcement, the government has allocated Rs 184.45 crore for central sector schemes/projects in the Rs 3,400 crore budget allocated to the Minority Affairs Ministry, compared to Rs 180.07 crore allocated in 2025. The new announcement highlights an increase of Rs 4.83 crore.
The increase in budget is a part of the central plan allocation. Other programs and schemes have been allocated the same amount as last time.
Modi Government’s Focus on Education
Prime Minister’s Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), improvements have been made to schools, hostels, health centres, and community buildings, directly benefitting vulnerable sections of society. Through the new women-centric programs, women have received training in leadership skills, financial literacy, and self-confidence, enabling them to play a stronger role in their families and society. These programs have also benefitted the Muslim community, empowering women to become self-reliant.
The Finance Ministry has allocated Rs 3,400 crore for the Ministry of Minority Affairs in this year’s Budget, including Rs 2,000 crore for the ministry’s flagship schemes. Furthermore, an allocation of Rs 1,197.97 crore has been allocated for the “Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram,” one of the flagship programs that has been targeted for flagship programs.
Increases and Decreases in Budget During the Modi Government
Ever since the Modi government came to power, the budget has increased year after year. The Minority Affairs Ministry received Rs 3,400 crore in 2026 and Rs 3,395.63 crore in 2025. Prior to this, in 2024, the Modi government allocated Rs 3,183.24 crore for the education and empowerment of minority communities.
The Modi government has proposed an allocation of close to Rs 3,097 crore for the Ministry in the 2023–24 budget. However, this amount was reduced to Rs 2,608.93 crore in the revised budget. In the 2024–25 Budget, the government has proposed an allocation of Rs 3,183.24 crore, an increase of Rs 574.31 crore.
Budget During Modi and Manmohan Government
Compared to the previous governments, the budget of the Minority Ministry has increased in the Modi government. In comparison to the UPA government, there has been an increase of Rs 1,000 crore in the budget of the Minority Ministry. Previously, when the Modi government came to power, many alleged that the Ministry would soon be closed off, but it continued to increase until his second term.
