Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are considered an important sector for the Indian economy. This sector offers employment to crores of people. The Union Budget is slated to be presented on February 1, and there are a lot of expectations for the sector from the upcoming budget.
MSME business units expect strengthening of GST reforms, ease of operations, and continuity for the sector.
According to a Neoinsights report, at least 86% of MSMEs expect that they would witness growth in 2026 due to GST reforms. People associated with the sector are anticipating measures from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman that would ease operations and strengthen continuity.
Besides this, 25% of MSMEs anticipate swifter and better access to government schemes, and businesspeople associated with the sector demand that the GST and compliance processes be made easier for them. A few MSMEs are focused on efficiency, transparency, and improving access to customers through digital tools such as online payments.
Industry experts are of the view that the Union Budget 2026 should be committed to sustainable manufacturing, MSME growth, and a technology-based supply chain. According to them, packaging, logistics, and e-commerce are crucial to India’s consumption economy, and therefore strong policy support is required to take it forward.
