Netflix and Shondaland have announced that Bridgerton Season 5 is now in production. The new season will focus on Francesca Stirling, played by Hannah Dodd, as she navigates life two years after losing her husband, John. She returns to society and considers remarriage for practical reasons.
The eight episode fifth season of the Regency era show has begun filming in the UK, Netflix said in a statement.
“Two years after losing her beloved husband, John, Fran decides to reenter the marriage mart for practical reasons. But when John’s cousin Michaela (Masali Baduza) returns to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate, Fran’s complicated feelings will have her questioning whether to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner passions,” read the official logline.

Based on Julia Quinn’s bestselling novels, Bridgerton follows the eight Bridgerton siblings as they look for love during the social season in Regency era England. Each season focuses on one sibling’s love story. Season 1 was about Daphne, Season 2 focused on Anthony, Season 3 followed Colin and Penelope, and Season 4 centred on Benedict.
Bridgerton Season 5 release date
There is no official release date yet, but the show usually takes about two years between seasons. Since filming started in early 2026, Season 5 is expected to release in late 2027 or early 2028.
What’s new in Bridgerton Season 5?
Season 5 will bring some fresh changes to the show. The makers are choosing songs by queer artists to match the central love story. At the same time, after Penelope steps down in Season 4, a new mystery around Lady Whistledown will begin, along with a slightly different narration style by Julie Andrews.
