The India national cricket team lifted the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 trophy after defeating the New Zealand national cricket team in the final. The summit clash was played at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium. With this victory, India achieved a major milestone in the history of the tournament.
Gautam Gambhir Creates Unique Record

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir achieved a rare milestone with the triumph. He became the first person to win the T20 World Cup both as a player and a head coach. Gambhir had earlier been part of the MS Dhoni-led team that won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, adding another historic chapter to his cricketing journey.
Historic win for India

With this victory, India became the first team to win three T20 World Cup titles, the first to successfully defend the trophy, and the only team to win the tournament on home soil. It also marked India’s third consecutive ICC trophy, following their triumphs in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy.
Explosive Start from Samson and Abhishek

India got off to a brilliant start with openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma dominating the powerplay. The duo stitched together a rapid 98-run partnership for the first wicket. Abhishek scored a quick 52 runs, while Samson anchored the innings with an impressive knock.
Ishan Kishan Continues the Momentum

After the opening stand, Ishan Kishan kept the momentum going with a powerful batting display. Coming in at No.3, he smashed 54 runs and maintained the aggressive tempo. His innings ensured that India stayed on course for a massive total.
Late Blitz from Shivam Dube

Even though New Zealand managed to pick up a few wickets in the middle overs, India finished strongly. All-rounder Shivam Dube delivered a quickfire cameo, scoring 26 runs off just 8 balls. His late assault helped India post a daunting total of 255/5 in the final.
India’s Bowlers Dominate the Chase

Chasing a huge target, New Zealand began aggressively but soon lost momentum. Spinners and pacers combined to dismantle their batting order early. Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah struck crucial blows in the powerplay, removing key batters and putting India firmly in control. The Kiwis were eventually bowled out for 159 runs, handing India a convincing 96-run victory. The result confirmed India’s dominance in the final.
