Mumbai traffic advisory: Commuters in Mumbai’s western suburbs may face significant delays due to heavy traffic on Tuesday, February 17. French President Emmanuel Macron, who landed in Mumbai this morning, will attend the ‘India–France Year of Innovation’ programme at the Gateway of India along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ahead of his visit, the Mumbai Traffic Police has implemented a strict road closure and diversions.

Key roads shut, restrictions in place for 13 hours

According to the advisory, traffic restrictions will be in force from 8 am to 9 pm on both sides of the highway, extending between Vakola Flyover and Dahisar Toll Naka.

Heavy vehicles banned on affected route

Heavy motor vehicles such as trucks and trailers must avoid this route during the mentioned hours. Meanwhile, light vehicles are allowed entry, but diversions and traffic congestion may slow down travel. Emergency services such as ambulances, police vans, fire brigade vehicles, and government vehicles can move as usual without interruption.

Alternate routes

Several roads in Colaba and the surrounding areas will see major restrictions, particularly around the iconic Gateway of India in Mumbai. A key stretch of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg near Regal Junction will be shut down. Motorists are advised to use alternate rouites like Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg, Mahakavi Bhushan Road, and Boman Behram Road.

Curbs have also been announced near North Court and nearby areas, especially for vehicles going towards the Radio Club side. Special traffic arrangements in South Mumbai will be in effect until 9 pm on the main event day.
